Dubai GIS Center has temporarily suspended the electronic service, www.exploredubai.ae, for further development and improvement of the web site, as stated by Mr. Hussain Lootah, Assistant Director General. Taking into consideration the suggestions and proposals received during the trial period, it was decided to take the service offline last week and provide the same for specific users or access through a membership system.

“Explore Dubai” presents geographic data in a format suitable for a novice Internet users and for seasoned GIS professionals. Originally the application was designed to increase the awareness of web-based mapping services through an easy-to-use mapping interface but its value has surpassed these expectations. Explore Dubai provides a wealth of digital geographic data through a series of pre-defined maps and customized queries. Whatever it is that you want to find, chances are Explore Dubai will do the job for you.

The internet-based solution is considered a full-fledged geographic information system portal of the Emirate of Dubai. It offers the user powerful capabilities in an easy to use framework and provides a flexible set of tools to perform various functions needed by the user. It also provides an accurate, detailed and up-to-date address-based information.

Users have access to high resolution aerial photography and easy to use tools that facilitate to measure areas and distances without going to the site on ground and to print and/or email maps in a matter of seconds.
