The GIS Center of Dubai Municipality is currently conducting predetermined and scheduled technical procedures for QA/QC of the ongoing different project stages, as well as on the received data of some areas. According to the results of first quality-control executed on the data of the pilot project, and on the data supplied to some project areas. Dubai GIS Center announces to the different government departments, that the apparent quality of the data is up to expectations and competes with the latest technology data standards.
The following products have been received and are undergoing the preliminary QC stage:
1. Scanned images for the areas: (Semi Dense A, Semi Dense B, Dense B, and Dense A.)
2. Modeling parameters for creating the 3D city models for the areas: (Semi Dense A, Semi Dense B, Dense B, and Dense A.)
3. Both the irregular and Regular DEM (Digital Elevation Models) grids (the Irregular grid consists of the Mass points, Breaklines and bridge breaklines). The areas received are: (Semi Dense B)
4. TIN Structures of DEM in both ESRI and Intergraph formats, for the following Areas: (Semi Dense B)
5. Contour Lines of half a meter and one meter intervals in ESRI ArcGIS format, for the following areas: (Semi Dense B)
Dubai GIS Center operates one SSK Z/I photogrammetric workstation and expects two more during the coming three weeks; these workstations enable modeling the 3D reality besides providing mapping and measurement facilities. Which makes GIS center capable of executing thorough QC, in addition to map special required areas or features in 3D.
With complete data delivery, GIS Center along with other government departments shall benefit from the products of this project in many ways, we will mention only some of the benefits related to the received data as illustration:
1. Scanned images together with the models parameters, create the base for modeling the real world in 3D Photogrammetric stereo environment. This environment provides GIS Center with a capability of mapping specific areas when needed, and collects specific data which is not covered by the catalog of vector data provided by the project.
2. The updated Irregular and regular digital elevation grids benefit different users with several functions, for example:
-
Creating GIS base map of the emirate, showing the high areas, low areas, peaks, pits, and slope, etc..
-
Etisalat can consider the DOL (Direct-on-line) visibility for planning some types of antennas, receivers and other products.
-
DEWA can use the terrain models in planning of both the water and electric networks.
-
The elevation models could be used by Municipality’s different departments in various areas such as: planning, studying environmental issues, laying road and railway, networks, cut and fill for different project areas, etc..
-
Civil Aviation will benefit from using surface models in planing airports, deciding maximum allowable heights of the buildings in the surrounding areas, etc..
3. TIN and Contour lines are simply other forms of representing the earth’s surface, which increase the usability and easiness of applying the data in specific environments, such as contour line are still considered the best method of representing surfaces on maps. (View Map)
As and when the products are received GIS Center shall inform the users, and provide some notes showing examples of uses & benefits of the data.
