The Dubai GIS Center of Dubai Municipality is a central repository of geographic information of the Emirate of Dubai that provides spatial data and GIS related services to departments of Dubai Municipality, other government organizations of the Emirate, and the private sector.

4.What is GIS?

 

GIS is a collection of computer hardware, software and geospatial data to permit capture and management for analyzing and displaying the results suitably. GIS technology integrates common database operations such as query and statistical analysis with the unique visualization and geographic analysis benefits offered by maps.

7.How often is GIS site updated?

 

There are many factors that determine how often a web site's content needs to be updated. Website content is updated weekly and we normally updated more often at the times of events and whenever there is a need for update.

8.How the GIS Center can set a model and what components does it consist of?

 

Geographical information systems consist of computer techniques to set up maps and analyse features and coordinates located on earth. Geographical information systems depend on merging data base operating procedures. For instance: showing the research’s results, explanations, and statistical analysis by presenting on maps.

 

These capabilities have distinguished the Geographical information systems from other information systems, and became a valuable tool for a large category of public and private institutions within the emirate in data management and in clarifying coordinates, expecting results, strategic planning, where the opportunity to undertake developed research procedures in many data base, in addition to the geographical research in the same time.

The Center is in the process of arranging strategic partnerships with all government departments of the Emirate of Dubai. The relevant Memoranda of Understanding are in progress to define the details of working together integrally to render the best service to the Emirate.

10.How may I request for GIS Center services?

 

The GIS Center is welling to provide its services through many types of communication methods.  Each service has specific procedures & requirements, such as filling forms or sending official letters, sending an email or visiting our office. Read more about GIS Center services & solutions

11.Why should I register?

 

In order to fully utilize the abilities of this website, the administrator will probably require that you register as a member. Registration is free, and allows you to in the shop section where you can purchase data.  You may access our site and navigate to different sections without registration except for the shop section.

To register, you will need to specify a username and password, and a valid email address. The administrator will send you the final part of the registration process by email, so ensure that the email address you provide is valid and working. More information is available during the registration process.

You can download GIS maps from a link at the home page or E-Store section under Free-Maps Link (E-Store -> Free-Maps).

13. How to access GIS database?

 

Currently direct access to GIS database is only available for Dubai Government department, which need to follow these steps:

  • Must be connected to Government Information Network (GIN). For information on GIN connection, please contact customer.service@diwan.dubai.gov.ae

  • Must give GIS a Public IP of their source machine(s), which will be connecting to GIS database.

  •  If need be, permit access to GIS database on their firewall.

  •  Request GIN to allow access to GIS database through GIN firewall.

 

14. How to get access to file/folder on GIS servers?

 

Kindly submit the “Folder Access” or “Folder Creation” form at

15. How to request a new plotter from GIS Center?

GIS Software

16. How can I request for GIS software?

 

Dubai GIS Center provides GIS Software to the required Dubai Municipality departments and Governments Department in General, where they can use it to create maps, structures, graphical designs and others. In addition, the center gives the required training in how to use GIS Software effectively. Also it is responsible to install the software’s for the users and make it ready to be used.

 

Dubai GIS center always provide any additional supports regarding to any technical problems that face the users while using GIS Software’s.

17. How can I request for Plotter or plotter Support?

 

Dubai GIS Center provides these plotters to the required Dubai Municipality departments, where they can use it to print maps, posters, structures, graphical designs and others. In addition, the center gives the required training in how to use these plotters effectively. Also it is responsible to configure the plotters for the users and make it ready to be used.

 

Dubai GIS center always provide any additional supports regarding to any technical and mechanical problems that face the users while using the plotters.

18. How can request for DUGIS?

 

Dubai GIS Center provides DUGIS to the users who are connected to the “GIN”; Government Information Network, where they can use it to search for facilities, parcels, owner information and others. In addition, the center gives the required training in how to use DUGIS effectively.

GIS Center (Roles & Conditions) for providing below Services:

Dubai GIS Center works as a third party in forming an integration channel with the data providers on one side; and the data requesters on the other side.  Such integration has a big impact on the process of providing data which is based on the Data Providers approval. Therefore, Dubai GIS Center hold no responsibility in approve or reject such requests.


Main Data owners:

Government Department: Dubai Land Department.
Dubai Municipality: Planning and Survey Department of Dubai Municipality.

The above two parties are the real decision makers and they have the right to grant privileges or reject requests based on applicant’s work nature and the reasons for requesting the service.

 

Definitions of approval-based privileges given by concerned departments:

 

Affected Parcels: Plot affected by services (R.O.W) right of way or by government land acquiring such as in case of re-planning.
Compensated Parcels: Affected plots that are compensated with money or land.
Coordinate Transformation: Tool used to transform coordinates between different projection systems (single or batch).
Measure Coordinates-Functions: Tool used to measure and annotate the coordinates of user’s selected point onto the map.
Normal Parcels: Plots that are not affected by (R.O.W) – Right of way.
Plans: Scanned document showing the parcel plans.
