- Special Achievement with GIS Award 2006
Dubai GIS Center in Dubai Municipality have been recognized for excellence in the geographic information system (GIS) field with a 2006 Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award at the Twenty-sixth Annual ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, California. ESRI, the world leader in GIS software, presents the award to organizations and agencies that display dedication and commitment through their use of GIS technology. The winners of the award are chosen out of more than 150,000 organizations worldwide.
- Dubai Excellence Award 2005
At the Dubai Government Excellence Programme Awards ceremony on Tuesday, 19 April 2005, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defense Minister General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the various Awards for Excellence and declared DUGIS of GIS Center as one of the Best Distinguished Technical Projects in 2004.DUGIS will take Dubai government departments from using informative GIS to integrated GIS.
- Completion of the first GIS-Basemap for the Emirate in 2005
To serve Dubai Municipality and other governmental departments, by providing the sufficient data for completing the infrastructure of the GIS base map.
- Training in GIS and successful induction into various Departments of Dubai Municipality
NINETEEN Locals in collaboration with Smart Square- Tanmia in 2004.
Dubai Municipality has successfully completed a training project in collaboration with Smart Square and Tanmia to promote the municipality's local work force in parallel with the UAE's vision of emiritisation. The Personnel Department has initiated this project to enhance GIS usage for different departments within the municipality. Each trainee has undergone rigorous training in GIS software for several weeks and then joining the municipality for on-the-job training. The full training program lasted for one year. As of 02.01.2005, all NINETEEN LOCAL trainees have officially joined Dubai Municipality as regular employees. All trainees have showed tremendous amount of enthusiasm during the training period and have successfully achieved goals even outperforming new employees.
- Reaching proper mutual understanding and finalizing Memorandum of Understanding with Strategic Partners on the GIN.
- Integration of GIS into daily workflow of various Departments of Dubai Municipality, including Developing / tailoring applications for their use.
- GIS Students Forum
The first GIS Students Forum is organized by the GIS Centre in cooperation with the Ministry of Education as part of the Map Middle East conference activities. Students in the age group of 12-15 from different schools in the UAE participate in the Forum.
- Map Middle East
It is an annual event organized by GIS Center in Dubai Municipality' and GIS Development. This event held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry and Chairman of Dubai Municipality with different theme each year.
- Seminars & Workshops for GIS Concepts:
This a periodic activity organized by GIS Center in Dubai Municipality for all DM Employees Strategic Partners as well as Public like school and colleges students interested in GIS.
