Only the most innovative, imaginative and committed will succeed. In every corner of the business of the GIS center we need people who relish business and technological challenges, and who have the vision and drive to identify, study, and implement innovative solutions. Our personnel are valued for their ability to meet challenges in a creative and individual way. They have the ability to push the boundaries of achievement, to challenge convention, and to continue learning.
Our approach to helping you develop your skills is consistent with the principles of our image. Everyone on the Enlighten program contributes to our success and to creating a distinctive company. Everyone:
- knows what they are expected of in their job
- has open and constructive conversations about their performance
- is supported to develop capabilities in a culture of innovation and is encouraged to grow within the organization
- is recognized and competitively rewarded for individual performance
- is listened to and involved in improving the team performance
- is fairly treated without discrimination
Your learning and development is a key element of our long-term strategy. It's not just about moving upward from one level to the next, it's also about moving in directions which best suit you, as well as the business. We create and support a long-term career relationship with you, if you are willing to take responsibility for your career. As each training or on-the-job program can be radically different to what you have done before and possibly to what you will do afterwards, it will be your responsibility to apply what you have learned.
The majority of the staff may not even know that certain information exists or that a certain problem has been faced previously and a solution found! So, we used intranet technology as the vehicle so this mass of accumulated knowledge gets a permanent, well-known and accessible place to reside within the organization. It creates a network of knowledge with known points of content input and maintenance, available to all personnel, thus perpetuating the core knowledge of the organization.
At Dubai GIS Center we started with a work-culture-environment of orienting and setting up all new employees and users of our GIS System to start with what is already the level of knowledge. All projects and tasks are on shared folders with clear access privileges. Our Vision and Mission Statements are well-defined. We held a series of brain-storming sessions led by an experienced GIS consultant questioning all aspects of our work till each was fully understood and then recorded in our web-site and shared folders. We hold periodic presentations of our work groups’ tasks to share information with the whole Center.
