Thematic Maps (GIS 312)

Aiding Environmental Conservation Using Remote Sensing

The main aim of thematic maps project is to use the combined technology of GIS and Remote Sensing associated with some necessary field works, analyzed by a specialized and qualified group of scientists, for assisting the management, planners, and other decision making authorities, by providing an up-to-date environmental digital dynamic thematic maps, along with conservational and protecting solution as much as setting a monitoring methodology and work flow.

This project is meant to utilize the tools of GIS and Remote Sensing for creating environmental and general purpose, GIS scientific digital maps and reports (Modeled Dynamic GIS Digital Thematic Maps) for the Emirate of Dubai, based on studies and investigations of environmental issues using remote sensing and GIS techniques. Remote sensing data combined with other collected data and information provided by scientists and specialized organizations are, interpreted, classified, rendered attributed, ruled and stored in a geo-database, which shall be provided to users and decision makers for conserving the environment of Dubai.

The project will be available during 2007 – 2012 for Dubai Municipality departments, other government departments, and private sectors.
